About

A journalist of more than 10 years, Miguel is currently a news producer for Global National — creating compelling audiovisual stories, from Canada and around the world, for Global News’ flagship television newscast.

While studying film at the University of British Columbia, he began his career as a writer and editor for The Ubyssey — the university’s largest student newspaper of over 100 years. After graduating in 2017, he continued his studies at the University of King’s College in Halifax, joining its renowned post-graduate journalism program. He also contributed to its local news website, The Signal.

Miguel took his love of arts and entertainment to CBC Radio’s Q with Tom Power as an intern, before joining Global National in 2019. Since then, he’s helped its international team of storytellers elevate their award-winning coverage of some of the world’s most pivotal events in recent years — from the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, to the ongoing war in Gaza.

When he’s not plugging away at a newsroom, you might find him sketching at a cafe, attending local film festival screenings, revisiting old video games, or flailing around at the boxing gym. Unfortunately, he does love pineapple on pizza.
